چکیده

Abstract. This study estimated raindrop size distribution (DSD) and rainfall intensity with an infrared surveillance camera in dark conditions. Accordingly, rain streaks were extracted using a k-nearest-neighbor (KNN)-based algorithm. The was DSD based on physical optics analysis. verified disdrometer for the two events. results are summarized as follows. First, KNN-based algorithm can accurately recognize from complex backgrounds captured by camera. Second, number concentration of raindrops obtained through closed-circuit television (CCTV) images had values between 100 1000 mm?1 m?3, root mean square error (RMSE) CCTV PARticle SIze VELocity (PARSIVEL) 72.3 131.6 m?3 0.5 to 1.5 mm section. Third, maximum diameter 1 or less produced similar during period high ratio diameters 3 less. Finally, after comparing 15 min cumulative PARSIVEL rate, absolute percent (MAPE) 49 % 23 %, respectively. In addition, differences according rate that MAPE 36 at than 2 h?1 80 above h?1. Also, when greater 5 h?1, 33 %. We confirmed possibility estimating image-based low-cost equipment

Estimation of Raindrop Size Distribution Parameters from Polarimetric Radar Measurements

Estimation of raindrop size distribution over large spatial and temporal scales has been a long-standing goal of polarimetric radar. Algorithms to estimate the parameters of a gamma raindrop size distribution model from polarimetric radar observations of reflectivity, differential reflectivity, and specific differential phase are developed. Differential reflectivity is the most closely related ...

Raindrop size distributions and radar reflectivity–rain rate relationships for radar hydrology*

The conversion of the radar reflectivity factor Z (mm6 m-3) to rain rate R (mm h-1) is a crucial step in the hydrological application of weather radar measurements. It has been common practice for over 50 years now to take for this conversion a simple power law relationship between Z and R. It is the purpose of this paper to explain that the fundamental reason for the existence of such power la...

Raindrop Size Distribution Over Northeastern Coast of Brazil

1. INTRODUCTION The granularity of raindrops within a rain volume has been the focus of recent research projects such as the ones dealing with numerical simulation of pollutants scavenging and radar microwave electromagnetic energy dispersion by rainfall, represented by radar reflectivity factor. The raindrop size distribution (RSD) characteristics depend on the microphysical, dynamical and kin...
